HOT!

Here in Texas the heat is over 100 degrees every single day. And as much as you want to leave your hair down, there will be a point during the day in which you'll want to pull it up. During those moments of desperation, anything becomes a lifesaver; a pencil, a rubber band, your daughters bow. Ok so it's ridiculously hot outside...but who says we have to throw our glamour out the window?! C'mon ladies! Find a look for the summer that not only helps you fight off the heat but one that helps keep your style in tact!

Au Natural!
If you have curly or wavy hair, why not let it go natural for a few days? Is your hair rebellious?
Try using a leave in conditioner and curl activator.

Braids
Who said braids are only for little girls? Braids are actually the latest trend and being spotted on the red carpet everywhere!  You can make a pony tail braid, a lose braid, a ballerina bun, or whatever your heart desires! Just be creative...

Messy Tail
This look is all about transforming something normal into something trendy. Create a regular ponytail, add a bit of teasing on the tips, and tuck in the ends with some bobby pins.
Yes! It's as easy as it sounds!

Bandanas
Bandanas are a great staple to have and can spice up your look for the day. HOWEVER, as my grandmother always reminds me "a little goes a long way". Bandanas should not be part of your daily look. Try them on special occasions and be daring!

Summer time is a great season to try new things. If you have never tried one of these looks, take a risk and let us know how it goes!

Let your life be full of beauty!
With Love,  Dharma

HOT!

Life Savers!

Life saver
Whenever you think about summer time you think of the beach, pool, sun, tanning, BBQ, ect. But think about this, when those images pop into your head do you ever think about what your hair will look like? How realistic is it to think that I can look like the girls on  “Baywatch” that although they were in the sun AND got in an out of the water their hair was perfect? I love the summertime! Maybe cause I grew up on my beautiful island where it is summertime all year around.  That is also why throughout the years I have found remedies to help maintain my hair during this time of year or somewhere where it is always hot. This blog will not show you how to swim, but it will show you how to save your hair from a summertime crisis and  how to enjoy this season to the max!

Life Savers:
Save your hair color from the sun!
In the same manor that you would protect your skin from the sun, you should do the same with your hair. These leave in conditioners contain SPF. It will not only protect your hair from the sun but your scalp from getting sun burned. There are many lines that make products with SPF, but these are my favorites!

Rusk Smoother Leave in Conditioner
$12.00

Redken Color Extend Sun Screen
$10.99

After party
After a long day in the sun your skin will feel it and believe me, your hair will too. A nice cold aloe vera gel can help alleviate the sting of a sun burn and these hydrating treatments will alleviate the drying affect of the sun in your hair. All it takes is two washes with your shampoo (to remove chlorine from the pool or salt from the beach) and an application of the conditioner for 25-30 min. Rinse, dry, and tadaaa!
Here are a few of my favorites!

Warning!!!
I love showing you tips and tricks on how to have great hair during the summer, but I also want to show you what you should NOT do. We have all, in one way or another, have fallen under one or more of these...
Myth 1:  Sun+Hair+Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen Peroxide is a very strong chemical for the hair. Many people use it to lighten the hair and in reality what they are doing is severely burning their hair. The majority of the time, the hair will end up extremely dry and orange. DONT DO IT!
Myth 2: Baby oil/ Camomile Oil
Camomile oil is usually used as a calmant for massages and teas and baby oil is exactly that...baby oil. When you have dry hair, it isn't because it needs oil, it is because it needs water. That is why it is important to re-hydrate it with a hydrating treatment that will return moisture back the hair.  Imagine making fried chicken and frying it in oil. That is exactly what we do when we apply oil-based products in our hair!

NOW LETS ENJOY OUR SUMMER!!!

MAY YOUR SUMMER BE FULL OF BEAUTY

WITH LOVE FROM TEXAS,

Life Savers! (ESPAÑOL)

Life Saver (Salvavidas)

Life Savers:

Rusk Smoother Leave in Conditioner

After Party

DONT DO IT!

Polish You Pretty & MUA! Make Up University

Nail polish is an art in itself and I love nothing more than to see paint used in creative ways. A little less than a year ago I discovered a blog titled "Polish You Pretty" and I fell in love! They have some of the most creative yet simple designs and they agreed to allow me to share it with all of you! So I will be posting my most favorite ones! These are fun and simple tutorials that you guys can do at home or on your clients if you are nail techs! Enjoy!

Polish You Pretty: Strawberry Fields Forever

Aren't these ADORABLE?! If you love this design then check out the tutorial below!

Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint nails in a pale pink to red gradient (Ombre is a way of life). We used Orly Cotton Candy, Zoya Shelby, Sally Hansen Caribbean Coral & Misa Valentine Red.

Step 2: Once your base colours have completely dried, begin with your strawberry tops. Keeping with the ombre theme through out we picked 4 shades of varying greens to match our bases. We used Essie Going Incognito, Essie Mojito Maddness, Revlon Posh & Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet. Using a small nail art brush begin by creating a “U” shape at the base. Paint long skinny-ish triangles for leaves – vary both size and length for each nail.

Step 3: Last but not least – strawberry seeds! We used 4 shades of yellow polishes for our ombre theme – China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, Essence Be Your Sunshine, Sinful Colors Unicorn & Finger Paints Lemon Sour. Using a smaller dotting tool begin by creating a large spaced out dice type 5 and adding additional dots. We find the dice trick the best way to find correct spacing between polka dots. Seal in the design with Seche Vite once it has completely dried!

And that's it! 3 simple steps to get these refreshing summer-time nails!
