The "Thought Box"

We all have a dream. Inside of everyone there is a longing to do something great and magnificent. Something that may have the potential to change the world.
In 2008 I moved to Puerto Rico after getting married. I was looking for a job and desired something in the beauty industry as my previous jobs were. I saw that a brand new store was opening its doors to the island but I hesitated. A few days later a friend called to tell me that she had seen an add for that same makeup store and that she thought I would do a great job there. I finally decided to go for it and I got the job.
I was so excited! I can still smell the grand hotel in which we received our training and ate delicious meals.  I loved my job more than anything that I had loved before. I always looked forward to help people, to serve in what I could, to do makeup on anyone I could get my hands on, and to learn new techniques. It was dream come true...until I started to dream bigger.
I remember the day that it happened. It was a day in which a lady who had suffered a major loss sat in my chair. As I applied the makeup on her face she told me her sad story. Her eyes filled with tears until they began to stream down her face. I knew that this was something that was all too familiar with her as her tears followed the crevasses they had created throughout her years of sorrow. She pulled out multiple photographs from her purse of what had happened. She wrung them in her hands like a wet towel and looked up at me waiting for me to say something. I was speechless and heart broken. 'What words could I possibly offer her?' I began to tell her that she was greatly loved. That there was a God that knew and understood her pain and that he saw her tears and wanted to heal her heart.
After we finished our talk, she got up and hugged me. We held each other for a few seconds and then she walked away. At that moment God gripped my heart and said, "She isn't the only one. There are many more." Soon after, the rules of the store changed to a time limit with our clients limiting me to "just makeup" and with that my passions began to change almost instantly. I suddenly became unhappy with just selling makeup. I wanted more, I needed more. I wanted to reach PEOPLE.
I wasn't sure how to do it, but I was convinced that God had placed this desire in my heart. I set up a makeup class with an inspirational message at the end. I told my pastor about it and we made connections with a local womens shelter. The experience was overwhelming. So much, that I quit my job and decided to run after this idea wholeheartedly.
Within a few months, I established MUA! Make Up University as a non-profit, was asked to do a report for the newspaper, and gave a good handful of classes to women all over Puerto Rico.
Today, I cannot imagine how unhappy I would be if I did not trust my heart in what it was hungry to do! I am ever grateful to be given the chance and the opportunity to do what I do, and love what I do as well.
If you are unhappy with where you are, ask yourself what you wish you could be doing. Ask God to show you! What inspires you? Gets you pumped up about life? What makes your heart glow? GO! Get started! Do what you love and change the world!-XoXo! Janice MUA!

"28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a]have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."
Romans 8:28-30
